That’s right, today marks the official launch of the DIY Dutch YouTube channel! 🎉

The history of DIY Dutch
I started learning Dutch back in 2019 right before I moved to the Netherlands.
And by 2021, I already had so many insights and ideas that I wanted to share when it came to learning Dutch. I wanted to start a YouTube channel, but I didn’t have any experience with video, and wasn’t comfortable yet with the idea of putting my ideas (and my face) online for the world to see.
But I thought about all the online creators and teachers who shared their knowledge about Dutch online — and how many of them (unknowingly) helped me in a big way. I decided I had to pay it forward and do something with everything I was learning about Dutch, and I started this website, DIY Dutch.
DIY Dutch was created to help answer the questions that I couldn’t find answers to years ago when I first started to learn Dutch.
At the time, even the thought of launching a website felt like a big deal to me. Despite the fact that nobody saw it for months…
Now, hundreds of people visit DIY Dutch every month and I feel so happy and grateful that I can use my experience to help others.
Launching a YouTube channel
Writing on here for the past two and a half years has taught me a lot. But probably one of the most important things I’ve learned is that putting my ideas out there on the internet isn’t so scary after all. In fact I’ve gotten nothing but positive feedback and comments on this website.
From my analytics, I’ve also learned what topics are most interesting to people learning Dutch, and what people are searching for.
With more than 30 articles published in my little corner of the internet, I felt ready to start thinking about a YouTube channel.
Me being me, I did a lot of research before I started planning and filming videos.
Thankfully, I have a library of articles I’ve already written on here (and data around what people like the most).
I am launching with four videos to start, but I have a list of at least 30 more videos that I want to film and add to the channel in the coming months.
What is the DIY Dutch YouTube channel all about?
Videos on the DIY Dutch YouTube channel will focus on 3 things:
- Sharing my experience in terms of HOW I learned Dutch — what resources did I use? What courses were most effective? How did I progress from level to level? etc.
- Help you improve your Dutch — not in the form of grammar lessons, but rather teach the expressions that I hear on a daily basis, help with pronunciation, common mistakes to avoid, etc. to help improve your Dutch and make you sound more native
- I want to help you find Dutch content that you love. Watching and listening to Dutch content is (in my opinion) one, if not the main contributing factor to my ability to speak Dutch. I want to help you find television shows, YouTube channels, podcasts, musicians, books, movies, you name it… That’s the entire idea behind the name “DIY Dutch” — find the content that speaks the most to you so that you can learn in your own way.
If that sounds like something you’re interested in, please consider heading over to YouTube and subscribing to the channel so you don’t miss my new videos!
Thank you all for being here and for your continued support! ❤️
